The Fiero, which means "Very Proud" in Italian, was General Motors first and only attempt to create a mid-engine automobile.  From 1984-1988, Pontiac produced 370,107 of them, an the project came to an abrupt end at that time.

The Fiero, during its lifetime, has been required to suffer from lots of speculation, bad press, insanely high insurance rates, and general midunderstanding of the car.   Part of this caused its untimely demise in 1988, but also it was taking away from Corvette sales and prototype turbocharged next-generation Fiero autos were outperforming GM's flagship Corvette as well.

This page existing to inform the interested about why this automobile's history and current day status.  It is by no means a comprehensive guide to the car, but you will find the links section to point to a number of important places where one can learn more.
